Today marks Eric and I’s 6 month anniversary. Which is crazy, I feel like we were just married yesterday! Actually, I feel like we just started hanging out yesterday…
The first time Eric called me he was really nervous and shaking. Which is kind of funny, because Eric is always cool as a cucumber and I’m the anxious shaky one. Anyway he called me up and I asked if he wanted to come with me – I was about to go take a picture of Jerry’s Drive-In Liquors sign. He agreed (thank god). Not surprisingly, I got lost but he knew the way. We drank orange soda (“I do I do I do-oooo”). I exposed him to my eclectic music collection and my accompanied crazy singing/dancing (which shockingly didn’t scare him off). Of course, I took the picture (see below). That was August 27th 2003.
We were friends for quite a while before that, but that night was our first time hanging out outside of school. I feel like it foreshadowed some things to come: me having really random ideas that Eric goes along with, me getting lost but Eric knowing the way, our love of varied music, and just our general ability to have fun together no matter what. We had a great night that night, and it was one of the many fun times we’ve had together the past 9 years!
On the way to our wedding ceremony we passed Jerry’s Drive-Thru Liquor Store and smiled.
Why hello neglected blog. I have a good reason … well. good reasons. I’ve been crazy busy. First, I got laid-off from my job along with most of my co-workers. It involved a whole lot of drama. There was a protest, cops, lawyers.. there was even a story about it in the AZ Republic! I miss seeing my co-workers everyday, but we still hang out together. They are just such great people and I love them!
It was after a Navajo cook-out with my (ex)co-workers that I ended up in the ER in excruciating pain – where I ended up puking mutton and frybread all over. The doctor told me I had a burst ovarian cyst and would be fine in a few days. She gave me pain meds and sent me on my merry way. I spent the next 24 hours hopped up on pain meds and STILL in excruciating pain. I finally went back to the ER – I didn’t want to pay another co-pay, but Eric insisted once my hysterics woke him up from the other room. This time they did a CAT scan, ultrasound, etc. Turns out I had an ovarian cyst that enlarged my ovary to the size of a lemon (rather than an almond). Not only that, but it had twisted and cut off its own blood supply. In other words, my right ovary committed suicide. I was rushed to surgery and had it removed. I was told by one doctor that the pain I went through was worse than childbirth. Instead of coming home with a baby (ew), I came home with a 5 inch incision and 6 weeks of recovery. However, after about 2 weeks I was back to my usual running around-ness. I have a wedding to pull together!
A week from today I will be officially married to the love of my life, my other half, my one and only! I’m super excited. Well, when I have the time to be excited. Mostly I’m just trying to make up for lost time (damn you ovary!) and pull everything together. I’m going to be pretty much M.I.A. the next couple weeks. Once I get back I plan on doing more posting, especially sharing pictures since I got a new toy….
There’s other stuff going on but, honestly, I don’t have the time! There’s just not enough hours in the day.
Stay tuned for lots of rambling about the wedding and honeymoon!
Well, I did it! I now own the widely coveted Bachelor of Art (Art History) degree! … I have to say, it feels pretty damn good. Especially since I graduated with a 4.0 like a rock star! (or nerd?) Since everyone keeps asking what “the plan” is, I guess I should put it here too. I plan on going for my Master’s in Library Science, which starts in December (assuming I get in of course). Between then and now I’m going to study for the GRE (math, oy), learn Latin and German, and volunteer at libraries. Apart from working and going to school full time (so I can get health insurance)…
I’m currently writing this from a hotel in Flagstaff – this trip was Eric’s graduation gift to me (along with a book buying spree that makes me weak in the knees to think about). Everyone keeps saying “there’s nothing to do up there!” like it’s a bad thing or something. Since Eric and I spent the past few months working all day, everyday, we want to do NOTHING for a couple days except watch movies, read books, lay around, etc. aaaand that’s all we’ve been doing. I just took this picture of Eric to illustrate:
It’s been pretty cold up here, which is a nice experience for a couple of desert rats such as ourselves. There’s even this magical stuff called “snow”!!! I actually got to go out and buy a couple jackets, scarves, etc. I’m enjoying wearing something other than short sleeve T-shirts and flip-flops! Today my Dad and brother (Boo) came up so Boo could go snowboarding. We went up to the top of the Snowbowl. While Boo was snowboarding we decided to just hang out…. We were doing pretty good until the visibility dropped to NOTHING and the horizontal blinding snow almost froze us to death. We ran back in the lodge and drank lots of hot chocolate while Boo was stuck on a stopped ski lift, freezing half to death. On the way back down the mountain my dad did lots of crazy fish-tailing (for fun) while we jammed out to Christmas music. All in all, an excellent day, and an excellent trip! Sadly, we go home tomorrow 😦 Time to go back to the real world, I suppose…

This has been one busy summer! I have work as usual, plus two summer school classes. I took a drawing class and a Medieval art class. Both were fantastic classes, but they sucked away all my free time!
Here is still life I did in my drawing class of a bunch of random stuff. More pictures from my phone can be found [here].
Now I’m on my two week vacation (half over) until the semester starts (my last semester!). I’ve been doing a lot of reading. Sadly, I finished my last Sharon Kay Penman book. Luckily she’s writing a new one, but I will have to wait a whole YEAR for it! Luckily I have had several great books to keep my mind off of it 🙂
I also discovered Netflix. I’ve avoided it for years because… well, I don’t rent many movies. Most movies these days are utter crap. Eric and I go to the independent movie theater, but we usually can’t rent those movies because places like Blockbuster and Hollywood Video have an abysmal independent/foreign section.
WELL, I signed up for a free trial of Netflix and… OMFG. All the classics/independent/foreign/documentaries I’ve been searching for are on there! The best part is that several of them can be watched INSTANTLY on my computer and, even better, through my xbox (and therefore TV)! It’s fantastic!
Eric and I have been waiting for the house stuff to come through. We are pretty close to getting a contract, just have to update the bank on some stuff and we should be good to go! Woo!
I’m writing this from my new laptop! It’s not going to replace my usual laptop – I just wanted something more mobile than my huge 10lb 19 inch desktop-replacement Sony Vaio! Something I could throw in my bag and take to school (or wherever).
The netbook I chose to get is the ASUS EeePC 1000HE – Amazon page [here].
I just got it in the mail today and so far, it’s amazing! I named him Zygmunt, but I call him Ziggy for short 🙂
Eric and I are engaged! You probably already know, because I’ve splattered it all over every social networking type site I’m a part of … sorry about that, by the way. I’m just so excited and happy!! I’ve been smiling uncontrollably, randomly dancing, and clapping like an idiot for a week now…
Many of you have asked how he did it, but it’s kind of a long story. I’ll summarize it like this: he took time off work when I didn’t have work or school. So last friday (the 13th, haha) we spent the whole day together doing a bunch of my favorite thing, including: playing video games, watching spongebob, going to my favorite restaurant (Ah-So). Then he took me to my favorite place, a bookstore called Half Price Books, where he bought me books (the best way to a Susie’s heart). On the way home I was thinking about how it was one of the best days EVER, when Eric drove right past our house. and took me to a park right next to our house instead. He then took me to the exact spot (in the park) where he first said “I love you” to me years ago. There he gave me an amazing speech (I’ll spare you the mushy details), and asked me to marry him. The ring was my grandmother’s wedding ring (whom I am named after but never met), and my mother’s wedding ring. Now it’s mine and I love it! Not as much as I love Eric :)
The ring: (as usual, click to enlarge)
I can’t stop daydreaming about Eric, so I constantly have this brain-dead look on my face, like so:
When I don’t have that far-off look in my eye, I have my “OMG WE’RE ENGAGED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” face:
The wedding won’t be until next fall, because we’ve been saving up money for a house, plus I’m graduating and Eric has exams… I’m really in no rush to start planning a wedding anyway hahaha. Anyway, YAYYYYYY!!! I’M SO HAPPY!!!!!!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
My all time favorite quote:
“When I get a little money I buy books; and if any is left I buy food and clothes.”- Desiderius Erasmus
and here I am with some of my books (mainly thanks to Half Price Books):
